A common railfan saying is to "Expect the unexpected" and i never expected to see western pacific 1983 pushing a train solo over Sherman hill. I had not even been in Cheyenne for an hour before my first heritage unit appeared. I would go on to catch this engine in Laramie and Rawlings, and it would make up a 200 mile train chase, my longest ever.
